About Me

My photo
I'm a mid twenties girl. Who has the cutest two boys ever. I'm married to the best hubby ever (aka the Man). I'm also a teacher of sixth grade with a masters degree in Education. I'd rather be busy than bored. I love things bright and beautiful and my family means the world to me.

Love in the works?

Tonight while on our way to the grocery store Tucker took the time to update me on me on his "girlfriend" at school. Apparently his friend Jonathan and his favorite girl Addison are boyfriend/ girlfriend. Addison has been Tucker's favorite all year. I don't know how the switch occurred but today Tucker took the time to tell Addison that she made the wrong choice. He told her that Jonathan is always naughty and has to sit in the "break chair" and that he (Tucker) is nicer and has camo pants.

This led to an interesting conversation:
Me: Why do you like Addison so much?
T: She is super cute, nice, and washes her whole hand. (love it!)
Me: Well that's important. What happened to Ava? (girlfriend from last year)
T: She's older mom, last year I was 4 she was 5. This year I'm 5, she must be 8!
Me: Maybe we don't need to worry about a girlfriend, you can just be friends with girls.
T: You're right. I've been thinking a lot about getting married.

Good GRIEF!

It's been a week?!?!?

  • Tonight I had to fold three loads of laundry, and wash three more. Something may have been forgotten for a bit.....
  • We had a dinner with friends last night, I successfully made stuffed shells- ON MY OWN. Yep, I'm tootin' my own horn. Big accomplishment for me!
  • For some reason school has seemed very jammed packed lately. Lots of meetings for upcoming possible changes for next year, so many things in the works that we have to go over and over again.
  • I was super pumped at getting a reading program started at our school that I had previously seen at my old school. I was the only one on  from our team last year when they were thinking about doing it so they didn't implement it in our grade level. Now that they want to implement it in our grade I have a team mate who suddenly has interest and repeatedly states how she can't wait to teach it.
  • Tucker considers our 30 and 36 year old male neighbors to be his best friends. He doesn't understand why its a little wrong for me to invite them over to play.
  • The Man has started his law enforcement program and is really liking it. I know that its still new but he's just really excited for what's to come.
  • We bought lumber for the basement and have started to examine the plans on how we're going to finish it.
  • Tomorrow we have a half day and workday then Monday is workday for end of the quarter. We're learning a new program for half the day- SO FUN!
  •  I can not wait for Saturday- cinnamon rolls are going to happen- whoop whoop!
Happy FRIDAY!!

The best/ worst teaching tool EVER!

Hello, teachers out there! Have you heard of the best tool out there to catch your students attention? To have them become so enthralled they literally follow you around the room. If you don't have one of these I suggest you walk, no RUN out to your local favorite store (they're on sale for $5 at Wal-mart).

Its a........

PEDOMETER!!

Our school is participating in a walking challenge with other school districts around us. To compete you have to wear a pedometer a.m. to p.m. Yesterday during science while we were doing a great lesson on compounds a student raised his hand and I asked I was wearing a calculator. Yep a sixth grader thought this thing was a calculator- I digress.

After explaining why I was wearing this and what is was supposed to be doing the interest only grew. While I thought the kids were just really into the compound discussion and excited I learned otherwise when it came time for questions. This is what I got?

So when do you actually put that on?
Are you beating the other teachers? Maybe you should try not sitting at all during the day, how many steps would that be?
Can't you just shake it with your hand?
You should come to PE with us!
You're going to beat everyone right?
Why don't you try hopping?

Better yet-
a group of 3 students, on their own, counted the steps I actually took and checked it against my pedometer. While I appreciate their trying to help me, pretty sure they didn't get much outta the lecture.

EVEN better-
during study hall that afternoon I crossed the room to help a student with his math, another student towards the front needed help so up I go. Sure enough, from the back opposite another student needed help. This is kinda weird, usually I'm at desk and the students come to me (that sounds super lazy, but its easier to stay in one spot so that they always know where I'm at). The first student raises his hand again, and somehow can't think of his question. So the truth comes out instead- four of my boys around the room figured that if they took turns asking for help they could get me another 1000 steps- what sweethearts!

2010: What a year?

I saw this over at The Company She Keeps and had to try it.

In looking back over the past year, 2010 has been ...

Best because ... We built and moved into our own home in April!!!
Colorful because ... of  all the friends we've made in our neighborhood and all the new blogs I've discovered and loved!
Adventurous because ... we are finally living on our own and trying new crafts and recipes!
Unexpected because ... The man changed his major and starting in a couple weeks will be working towards his new career goal.
Sporty because ... I've been working more on running and have really started to enjoy it!
Educational because ... I have an amazing classroom in the same grade as last year so I've been able to really focus on what my students need and how I can be a better teacher.
Unforgettable because... our family has grown so much this year, we're closer than we've ever been!

I hope you all have had a great year and are ringing in 2011 well!!
