About Me

My photo
I'm a mid twenties girl. Who has the cutest two boys ever. I'm married to the best hubby ever (aka the Man). I'm also a teacher of sixth grade with a masters degree in Education. I'd rather be busy than bored. I love things bright and beautiful and my family means the world to me.

Random

It's funny that today at work I was thinking about what to blog about and figured I could just do random thoughts. Apparently thetas what a few of my favorite bloggers thought as well.

  1. This weekend was our one year anniversary. I can't believe that it's only been one year. The three of us headed up to Mall of America where Tucker got to experience "Lego Land". We might have even broke down and let him pick something out.
  2. My niece is turning 5 this week, which means Tucker turns 5 in three and a half months.
  3. We have to start looking at bunk beds because we've been promising Tucker them for TWO years.
  4. I worked five overnights since last Sunday and I'm so excited to be back on a regular sleeping schedule- I miss my boy time.
  5. The Man took today off, I went to work, and he dusted and vacuumed for me. Even dropped off two bills, also mowed the grass, one load of laundry and figured out dinner- WOW!
  6. While I would like to start planning my room for this school year, I'm really waiting to see if any jobs post in town.
  7. My flowers I bought from Target 2 weeks ago STILL look amazing!! Who knew Target did flowers?
  8. I'm excited to head back up to "the cities" Friday for lunch and some back-to-school shopping with my mom and Tucker, maybe my niece. Tucker is growing way too fast as of late.
  9. While reflecting on our first year of marriage we discussed our future. Hopefully next year, most likely after the completion of the school year, we'll start "working" on #2.
  10. Upon this decision I would love to go through all Tucker's baby stuff and get it really organized. But I of course will not.
  11. I'm back to a regular running schedule after my brief hiatus last week and it feels less than wonderful, but I still love it.
  12. After a wonderful weekend with my boys, I truly feel like such a lucky person. LOVE, LOVE my boys!

Maybe I should be blonde?

Please remember I am sleep deprived, 3 overnights down, 2 more to go.

I decided since the Man is in class tonight and I am not about to do anything requiring much energy that I should just get a movie and some comfort food. I ran to Hy-Vee really quick to pick up "Valentine's Day" and dinner. As I get back to my car I realize that my remote isn't unlocking the doors. I double check that I'm at my car (I have mistaken my car- a FEW times).

Sure enough it's my car, but it won't unlock. Knowing that the Man is in class I call the next best man- my daddy! Here's a recap of the conversation-
Me: "Um, hi dad. I'm at Hy-Vee and I can't get my door to unlock."
Dad: "Are you sure you're at the right car?"
Me: "Yep."
Dad: "Check again. You know, just in case." (I mentioned I've done this before right....)
Me: "I checked, its my car. The remote isn't working."
Dad: "Well, what's wrong with your key?"
Me: "Nothing, it's right here."
Dad:"Maybe you should try that."
Me: "You mean in the door?"
Dad: "Cali G. I am not that old!" and he hung up. He actual threw out m middle name. :)

Wow!

My Reading List

I had a goal of reading a TON this summer. I'm finally making a nice dent in my stack/ list of books I've been wanting to read. Here are just a few:
Sophie Kinsella is one of my favorite authors- absolutely LOVE her. She wrote the whole Shopaholic series and has another one coming out soon. Can't wait!
My mom and aunt turned me on to this author- total romance thriller kinda series. It's way different than anything I obviously read to my students and I love it! This book is the start of the Buchanan family. I've read all that are printed so far and there is another spin off out soon that I can't wait to pick up.
This is another one in the series, I didn't want to do picture overload. ( But I am anyway).
This one I re-read so that I can watch the movie this summer as well, which I haven't made time for, but I will soon. As soon as I get done reading :)
I love a good Hollywood story and I have actually liked Tori Spelling. I'll admit I've watched most of her shows except for some of the cheesy TV movies. Her writing reads just like her. It's very honest (I think) and they are quick reads. I have the next one, Mommywood, On Request at our library.

These are a couple more that I either want to read again or have on my list:

Let the reading continue.....

What makes you sparkle?

Such a cute idea from: Puppies, Paychecks, and Prozac   and Life is Reed-iculous

You know you have those bad days when certain things can help turn them around or the idea of them makes an unbearable moment a little more livable. For instance, how many women out there have something in mind when they walk in for their yearly appointment with their lovely boob groping, lady part checking, odd question, cold glove wearing, doctor. Here are some much more pleasant "sparkles" that brighten my day.
sweet hugs
caramel macchiato
soft blankets
the first snow
ruffles on everything
the soft center of a cookie
fresh daises
a note
dancing with my man
sleeping in
chocolate covered donuts

To Kill a Mockingbird
laughing until your sides hurt

favorite pair of jeans
sneaky kisses
pedicures
Pretty Woman
sweet tea
school supplies
cardigans
Etsy
clothes out of the dryer

MMMMM, blondies....

These are yummy! I might have to bake more- maybe. I got the recipe from REALSimple.

Ingredients:
Nonstick veg. spray
1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, spoon and leveled
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
3/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
3/4 cup semisweet choc chip

Directions
1. Heat oven to 350. Spray an 8-inch square baking pan with nonstick spray. Line pan with parchment, leaving an overhang on two sides; spray parchment with nonstick spray.
2. In medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
3. In large bowl, whisk together butter and sugars, the whisk in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour mixture, then nuts and chocolate chips.
4. Spread the batter in the pan and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 35-40 minutes.
5. Cool completly in the pan. Holding both sides of the paper overhang, life the cake out of the pan, transferring to cutting board, and cut into 16 squares.

* I may have been a little eager and pulled my "cake" out after an hour and a half, then cut it up. I may have even tried a square or three.

Coaster Project

Here in our northern house we have a lot of wood surfaces and my darling husband and son we love to put our cups on these surfaces. Which results in mom cleaning and rescuing our tables from horribly, dreadful cup marks. So I found some 10 cent gems (in the form of single white tiles) at Menard's, felt stickers, grabbed my Mod Podge, and scrapbook paper then went to work.

What was this:
I read about this idea over at Prudent Baby its very easy. The hardest part is having patience while the Mod Podge dries in between coats.

And the end result:
I couldn't decide on a certain one color paper, or pattern that I wouldn't tire of. We also have magazines out and about so I figured these could tie in nice. Hopefully my tables will be grateful and the boys we will remember to use them!

I WON!!

I am rediculously, tremendously, over joyed, jumped out of my chair, yelled for my husband who thought I was injured, so very excited about what I just won!

Remember this post? I just checked and I won the Silhouette. I never win. This is so very exciting, I just made the Man sit down and look through the website with me in celebration. He actually sounded game for some of the projects I suggested AND suggested some of his own. I can not type how excited I am.

Thank you SO much to the most amazing, awesome, wonderful giveawayer ever Just a Girl ! And of course to Silhouette for their generous gift.

To die for!

I am in love! I might not post about it too much but I love to make my own cards- thank-yous, notes, birthdays. Cute little notes that I want to personalize myself without looking through every store. This machine is wonderful, amazing, beautiful. The Man once mentioned The Cricut and how I should get one eventually, then I mentioned the price and he back tracked a little.

Just a Girl is giving a MUCH better option away.

I have been stalking sites since I heard about this. I am blogging about it of course to help improve my chances of winning. Head over there and check it out. I wonder if this could be considered tax deductible if I'll use it for my classroom, hmmmmm......
